Pearls are a beautiful natural product; they come in all shapes, sizes and colours.
Pearls are formed within a living shelled mollusc and are often classed as gemstones. Certainly, large and almost-flawless pearls can command high prices - these are very very rare.
Each cultured pearl is unique - the shape, size, colour and texture bring qualities that make the jewellery interesting and distinctive.
Beware of imitation pearls manufactured from crushed seashells and resin. The best way to test for fakes is to rub two pearls together - real pearls feel slightly gritty, imitation pearls feel smooth.
Read the Cher & Co Buyers Guide for factors to consider when buying pearls.
